Our history

Turning Point was organized in 1923 and has a rich beginning founded in prayer and miracles of divine healing.

We trace our founding to some truly spiritual pioneers. one such pioneer was a man by the name Tommy Vissage. Tommy was known in the community for having a strong prayer life and his belief in divine healing. Unfortunately, his neighbors were not pleased about his prayer life since it often disturbed them and kept them up at night.  After complaints reached the Superintendent of the mill, Tommy was told he would have to move off the mill village.  For about six years Tommy lived away from town until the Superintendent called for Tommy to come to his home.  Upon arriving at the Superintendent’s home, he discovered that the Superintendent was ill and wanted Tommy Vissage pray for him.  Through prayer and faith in God, the Superintendent was healed by the power of God.  The Superintendent then gave Tommy back his home on the mill village and told the people that if Tommy’s praying disturbed them, they would be the ones who would have to move.  Because faithful men and women believed in and practiced prayer and faith, the church was able to be formed in 1923.
